Digital Patient Information

Timeframe: 2014-2021
Funder: NHS

This NHS funded project began with a simple question: How can we improve patients’ and their carers’ understanding of heart or lung transplant process? User Experience Design is often focussed on creating satisfying, compelling or even enchanting interactions but what happens when the outcome of a user interaction has to prepare someone for a difficult personal experience? In the creation of a new digital patient information resource for prospective patients and people in their wider circle of care from carers to clinicians, we worked sensitively all stakeholders to help research and design a new digital solution. The research included informal interviews with staff and patients, shadowing, evaluation of the current patient material available and understanding of current learning theories and trends in information technologies, before working with digital agency Enigma Interactive who designed and developed the online learning resource which is will be launched in 2021.
