Hybrid Digital-Physical Objects

Timeframe: 2016-2021
Funder: Royal Society Wolfson Award

The area of design research is entering a tremendously exciting new phase, that of hybrid digital-physical products. In effect, the boundaries between hardware and software, as well as between products and services, are starting to disappear. In this project, we explore how future digital artefacts are created from a combination of hardware and software. It brings together academic and industrial partners to develop multi-disciplinary methods to support the design and innovation of such artefacts. The work is practically oriented to produce hands-on demonstrations of new artefacts, which can be evaluated in real use contexts.
