OUTBURST: Exploring hate crime reporting with LGBT young people

Timeframe: 2017

This project used participatory design methods to explore responses to hate crime with LGBT young people and specialist criminal justice workers including Northumbria Police. We asked the young people to design ‘magic machines’ that would respond to hate incidents. We found that while reluctant to report all but the most serious crimes, the young people still expressed a desire for social justice in response to their experience of hate.
