Working Carers is an E-Learning Project created for Gateshead Carers. The primary aim of this pilot e-learning package was intended to demonstrate the business case for employers to support working carers through the provision of a free online e-learning resource that can be facilitator led or self-guided. As part of the design research process, we met with carers and employers to understand their good and bad experiences of how employers have supported caring needs. This exercise informed the topics that we needed to cover. Through a workshop we also explored their ideas of what an idealised solution might be, in order to appreciate the form that it might take. After these initial research workshops, we decided that the best solution was through the creation of series of documentary interviews and fictionalised accounts of real experiences. These striking films helped illustrate the issues and drive the content of the e-learning built material. To create and deliver this project a novel multidisciplinary team of professional, graduate and undergraduate filmmakers, journalists and designers was assembled. On a personal level my overarching roles were creative direction and project management, with some design lead work around branded elements.
